THE LEGEND OF SAINT GEMINIANO

I would like to introduce myself , my name is Geminiano. I was born on January 15, 312 in Cognento. I dedicated my life to the church and to worshipping my God. One day I moved to the city of Modena and there I became bishop. My appearance might deceive you but I am a Roman.  I'm going to die of a disease in 397, in my beloved Modena.

It is the year 451 and Attila, chief of the Huns, holds the italian peninsula in his grasp. We have done everything we could to save our city. By now many of the inhabitants have hidden in the woods that surround Modena, to try to escape death and destruction. But there is nothing that can be done, the fearsome Huns are now close.

There is only one thing left  to do, pray. We, the remaining citizens, will trust God to save our lives. We will pray all day and night in front of the grave of our ancient bishop, Geminiano. On the fourth day, Geminiano will cover our city and the surrounding woods with a thick layer of fog, thus preventing Attila from destroying it.

Narrator

However,  there is an inconsistency: the only way of communication which connected every part of the peninsula was via Emilia, which inevitably passed through Modena. Would Attila decide not to destroy the town because it was not very important, or was it really Geminiano who saved the city from the Huns?
